To celebrate Lorena Guillen Tango Ensemble's performance at the NC Folk Festival which will occur on September 11th at 12pm on the Old Courthouse Stage, Greensboro Project Space has created a participatory visual art exhibition based on Lorena Guillen's project "The Other Side of My Heart." 

The Other Side of My Heart is musical-visual artwork that engages Latina immigrants in retelling their journeys from their countries of origin to the Triad region in NC (Greensboro, High-Point, Winston-Salem). Over various sessions of recorded conversations with Guillen, six women from our community shared and reflected about their dreams and fears while evaluating the things they gained and lost. This work became a song cycle with music by Alejandro Rutty and lyrics based on the interviews, which Guillen edited from their exact words. Rutty and Guillen used fragments of their recorded voices in the interviews as part of an audio-collage interspersed between each song.
