A fighting game from Exile Game Jam in fall 2015 using paint

I made Paint Club with one of the Surrender group members from Lyst, Johannes Følsgard, at Exile Game Jam in Denmark. Most people there were working on video games, but Johannes and I wanted to make another physical game. Not only that, we also wanted to make something less gentle and more aggressive. I brought body paint with me, so we ended up using it and some paintbrushes to make Paint Club.

To play, two players lock hands in the middle with one hand and hold a paintbrush in the other. Each player has a simple grid drawn on their chest, and when a round starts, they have one minute to use their paintbrush to make a slashing mark across the lines on the other player’s chest.

It got very intense very fast as you can probably imagine, but was also a lot of fun. People said it was the most “WTF” moment of the game jam, which I took as a compliment.

Note: It’s important to use paintbrushes that don’t have metal behind the brush part to avoid injury (and probably ideal to wear goggles, too).
