My name is Kathryn Cook. I am a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and also received my Bachelors of Fine Arts through the same university. I am originally from Boone, North Carolina and have spent most of my artistic career pursuing the figure in juxtaposition with the landscape.

Through my studies of bodily movement and engagement with my various environments, I am using my own body as a mark making instrument to reestablish my connections with the Earth and with place. My philosophy is that we are connected to the Earth, the landscapes, and cityscapes that we dwell in. We are not separate from the ground but a product of it. Through my work, I hope to reestablish this connection and have a reciprocal relationship between the places I travel and call home. When walking, moving, or engaging with an environment, one leaves a residue of their presence in that space. When we travel, whether it be around our home or to a place that we have never been before, it leaves a residue on our memories and our bodies. I am interested in this relationship and hope to continue my research of this relationship in regard to the use of my own body.
