Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Celia Cortez is currently pursuing her MFA at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Cortez received her BFA in painting at the University of Texas at Arlington. She is currently exploring the realm of installation and sculpture as a graduate student. Her interest lies in creating a new environment within space using mixed media and sculptural work influenced by the absence of home versus the experience of new places. The environments Cortez is trying to explore within her work is creating spaces that give either the feeling of relaxation and comfort, against claustrophobic, tight, discomfort. Her work is always in state of evolution as she tries to convey these two experiences.
