TWO-DAY LONG-FORM IMPROV INTENSIVE: Diving into La Ronde and Slacker

Saturday, July 7 2pm-5pm
Sunday, July 8 2pm-5pm.
Performance for family and friends immediately following Sunday's class, 5:15pm-6pm

In this two-day intensive, we will explore the fundamentals of long-form improvisation, focusing particularly on quickly creating playful, strong, surprising, and sustainable characters rooted in emotional truth. Through this lens, we will develop scenes and create shows using two character-driven forms: La Ronde and Slacker, culminating in a performance for friends and family. Even if you’ve never tried long-form before, this is a great opportunity to get a crash course in the basics (including character, relationships, environment, and scene work) that will empower you to say yes to your impulses and to play at the top of your emotional intelligence. This course is for adults and teens 13 and up. Maximum students: 10

Instructor: Ben Compton
Ben Compton is an improviser and storyteller who has been performing around the country for the past decade or so. Originally from South Carolina, he moved to Chicago after college and trained at the Annoyance, where he also performed in original shows. In New York City, he trained and performed at The PIT and The Magnet theaters, and taught improv at the Annoyance. He has a Masters in Literature, and one in Educational Theatre.
