"During my time as a Falk Visiting Artist at UNCG last spring I met some wonderful undergraduate painting students.  I also got a chance to talk about teaching painting with Mariam Stephan, Director of Graduate Studies – Art, and Associate Professor of Painting. Through our conversation, we hatched a plan for the following fall to engage our undergraduate students in a dialog about painting and abstraction:  We both secured exhibition spaces at our respective institutions, and this fall asked our upper level painting students to consider the use of reduction/simplification in our work with both landscape and figuration.  We both recognized the importance, and joy, of meeting others in our region engaged in similar questions, problems and processes. We will come together on January 10th for a joint conversation, hosting our UNCG guests.  Students will be asked to respond to our discussion with new work, which we will show along with this work, February 12th - 16th at the Greensboro Project Space in Greensboro, NC."
